I agree that:

1 a. Fanfic authors have the responsibility to put up warnings.
1 b. Fanfic readers should not act all offended if they choose to ignore those warnings.

2 a. Those who like crossgen might identify with the younger, not the older, of the pairing.
2 b. Those who like dub-con/non-con/rape might identify with the one overpowered, not the aggressor.

3. Non-fandomers will not stumble upon chan unless they specifically look for it.
How many of you even know what "chan" means before becoming part of the HP fandom? (Note: "shota" =/= "chan." More on that some other time.)

Warning: Might offend some Christians

So I was talking to spiderstars on MSN about The Magician's Nephew, and the conversation veered to the Bible:

Just because you're Christian doesn't mean a Christian from Korea or a Christian from S. Africa would agree with you =P

The Message always amused me with their contemporary American proverbs =P
In this one passage they translated, Jesus sounds...spastic and bipolar. (ETA: without the medication, that is). I LOLed.

So someone left a rant-y "review" to one of the F-list saying Scorpius/Rose will never happen "because there is too much blood feud between the Weasley and the Malfoy family" (all typed in CAPSLOCK).
Note: the reviewer ships a non-canonical het ship that has been debunked--and meanly laughed at--by Rowling during interviews, so reviewer is not only stupid and rude, but also a hypocrite.

Anyway there was much WTFLOLlery over at said friend's LJ. The comments made me think of Ron/Draco and Scorpius/Rose.

Although I ship H/D, from early on I recognize the parallels between Malfoy/Weasley and Montague/Capulet. (Which is why although Ron does come across as heterosexual to me, I love reading Ron/Draco X-D)

Take away SuperMagical!Harry, and you have your regular schoolboy stand-off between Ron and Draco going:

Ron: "My Dad is better than yours."
Draco: "Oh yeah? well we're richer than you, and your mother's fat."
Ron: "D:< You take that back, ferret!111"
Draco: "Shut up Weasel, you stink!"
Snogging and wall!sex scuffling and fistfight: *ensue*

Plus! Scorpius/Rose totally sounds like the name of a rock band! =D

And Scorpius/Rose can totally exist in the same story as Albus Severus/Scorpius! Because Scorpius has to work out his bisexuality first.
At first Draco grudgingly accepted that Rose is a nice, sensible kid considering who her parents are. Ron wouldn't admit it, but he thinks Scorpius is v. polite considering that he's a Malfoy.

But then their relationship is too sedate because both Scorpius and Rose are serious and calm.
In the meantime, Albus Severus languished in the background for his love that will never be O:

Until one day, Al got drunk and attack-snogged Scorpius!

Scorpius: "WTF mate?!111"
Albus Severus: *snogs again*
Scorpius: *thinks* Hey, this isn't so bad "But what about your cousin and my--Mmmmph..."

Rose gets heart-broken, but then realized her feelings to Scorpius was more of a crush borne out of friendship.

And then we have the first Wizarding gay marriage ever! Harry and Draco become sorta in-laws! >=D Which totally squicks them because they're having a secret affair behind their wives' back because their sons look so much like them.

I have been swallowed by the adorably teeny vortex that is Jooster (Jeeves/Wooster). It's the l. that dare not s. its n. between Bertie Wooster, a useless wastrel gentleman, and Reginald Jeeves, his brainiac valet.

Long story short: a few weeks ago aldebaran1977 proclaimed the greatness of P.G. Wodehouse. I found out that there was a Jeeves and Wooster TV show with Hugh Laurie (!111) in it, watched the first three episodes, was utterly charmed, then discovered Jooster fanfiction via painless_j.

The past week, I've been steadily reading the fanfiction on indeedsir and its archive. I've read Sherlock Holmes crossover, House M.D. crossover, AU female!Bertie, AU where Bertie and Jeeves are schoolmates, the every-fandom-must-have-one AU vampire fic, and the Harry Potter pastiche fic.

Narcissa Malfoy squeed over her son, alerting Snape that maybe five alihotsy leaves in her tonic was overkill.

In which everyone (even Snape) agreed that Draco is lovely. And Narcissa reconsidered her dinner invitation to Pansy when she discovered her ex-future-daughter-in-law flirting with her currently-incarcerated husband.

Su Li assured Priscilla Jones that compared to Blaise Zabini, Draco Malfoy is much more of a minion to one Severus Snape.

Severus Snape on elemental correspondences of the Four Houses to certain subjects. Su Li explained why only half of Ravenclaws hyperventilate around Snape.

Finally realizing that Snape is an evil bastard is unresponsive, Priscilla Jones set her sights on Remus Lupin.

Pansy Parkinson's alarming agression suggests she was in the wrong panel altogether. After her barely veiled continued threats on the Muggles, Priscilla was relieved to see Aurors taking her wand away.

Pansy surprisingly lost only five points for her inappropriate language.
Snape refused to give her twenty points for looking lovely.

Blaise Zabini remarked on the effect of the whole ferret!Draco thing on Pansy Parkinson's designs.

And the snark between Blaise and Pansy continued...

Su Li tried to get Blaise Zabini to admit to his crush on Hermione Granger.

Dumbledore explained to Priscilla Jones the properties of the Philiosopher's Stone.

Dear F-list, please plug this post. I'm curious as to why other women are attracted to slash--it'll be interesting to open my inbox when I finally get a decent Internet connection at my home country ;-)

Disclaimer: This is my own reason for why I read slash. If this generates wank at all, it's going back under F-lock. I won't be able to respond to comments for a few days, as I'm on a long, long plane trip back to my home country, which doesn't have reliable Internet connection.

In answer to somigliana’s question: Have you any theories about why slash is rather appealing to women?

There are two levels to slash's appeal to women. First and foremost (let's be honest here), it's p0rn. Involving two men. Which some would argue means double the sexiness. Just like men's kink of lesbian sex. Ahem.

BUT, slash is not just about p0rn. Otherwise, there won't be elaborate romance fics that take a dozen chapters before the characters even kiss. An example is sarahtales's Underwater Light. So this is the second level of slash's appeal: the story. But why does a story exploring the relationship between two men appeals so much to women?

There are many theories/speculations regarding this, and it differs for different cultures and different fandoms. I'll try to address this according to my own history with slash.

In conclusion (if there is one), there are the p0rn, the story and the subtext. I can’t speak for other women, but what attracts me to slash is the rivalry/obsession/tension thing going on and the idea of the two characters being equals or counterpart to each other. And it took me five pages to draw that conclusion. LOL.

…I’m sure this post can potentially offend some people. And I don’t include those LJ names to start wank or whatever ~_~ The above-mentioned people are my favorite authors in the slice of HP fandom that I’m in. If you think any of them might be offended, I’ll take out their names.
